Starting Jan. 1 the York LGBTQIA+ Resource Center will officially become the Rainbow Rose Center. All events, such as Equality Fest, Equality Fest Junior, Trans Day of Remembrance York, and Coming Out Day York will be events of the Rainbow Rose Center rather than their own entities.
The center's flagship festival, Equality Fest, will take place Sun., June 28, 2020, otherwise known as Stonewall Weekend.
In addition the center noted Equality Fest Junior will happen on May 9, 2020, Mother’s Day weekend. Coming Out Day York will occur sometime in October, and Trans Day of Remembrance York will be held some time in November. Details on locations and times will be published in upcoming issues of The Central Voice. in print and online.
With the start of the new decade, the Rainbow Rose Center will look to expand its offering of programs. The center began with a Transgender Support Group Meeting, co-hosted with TransCentralPA, at the office within the I.D.E.A.S. Center in York at 15 N. Cherry Lane. The meetings are held on the fourth Saturdays from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. with dinner somewhere in or around downtown at 6:30 p.m. for those who’d like to join.
The center's Resource Specialist Volunteers are back in the office. Office hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays and Saturdays.
