WANT Senator to support Equality Act

Students take their message to Toomey

NextGen PA student volunteers met with US Senator Pat Toomey's Harrisburg staff Feb. 20 to urge him to take action on the Equality Act.

Passed by the US House a year ago, the act would provide LGBT civil rights protections on a federal level. The US Senate has yet to take action.

The group also delivered hundreds of petitions from students across Pennsylvania. Following the meeting, volunteers held a rally on the steps of the Pennsylvania state capitol.

In an email to Central Voice, Sarah Egan said: “It has been nearly a year since the Equality Act passed in the US House. It’s time for Toomey to stop neglecting to protect LGBT Pennsylvanians from discrimination.”

In 2018, NextGen PA organized young voters across the state to knock on 98,000 doors, sent over a million texts to voters, and organized on more than 100 campuses, according to a media advisory.
