Coronavirus Update - LGBT Center of Central PA

Posted
Greetings!,

Here at the LGBT Center, we have been monitoring the evolving public health concerns about Coronavirus (COVID-19) closely, and wanted to share an update with our communities.
Center Closure & Virtual Programs
Based on directives from Governor Wolf to close all schools for two weeks, shut down Capital Complex, and for people to stay home as much as possible to mitigate the spread of the virus, we have made the decision to close the Center effective today - moving all of our groups to a virtual format and having all staff work from home for the time being.
This is not a decision that we take lightly, as we know how vital our programs are for our communities - particularly during times of uncertainty and stress. However, we believe that we must do our part to ensure that we are not putting anyone at risk during this time.
We are committed to continuing to provide spaces for community, connection, and support, so here is how you can access this week's groups virtually.

Support for Higher-Risk Community Members
We know that some of our community members are at greater risk of being impacted by COVID-19, including our LGBTQ+ older adults and people with compromised immune systems. As we have always done in times of increased need, we are encouraging our communities to support and care for one another.

The LGBT Center has created a virtual community network at Slack to support LGBTQ+ people in Central PA who have acute financial and mobility needs during this time. There are channels for different types of needs, and you can post types of assistance you are seeking or offering. Anyone is welcome to utilize and participate in this resource, though it centers the needs of LGBTQ+ community members. Please feel free to share this resource widely!
Conclusion
We know that these are uncertain times, which can cause a lot of fear and anxiety. Please know that we are here for you, and we will continue our work fostering inclusive communities and holistic well-being for LGBTQ+ people in Central PA. We encourage you to follow all of the recommendations related to hand-washing and sanitizing, social distancing and staying home, and checking on loved ones (virtually!) who may be at greater risk. We're in this together.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact Executive Director Amanda L. Arbour at aarbour@centralpalgbtcenter.org or 717-409-5781. Please take care of yourself, and let's keep taking care of each other!
