CELEBRATED SEPT 23 EACH YEAR

Bi Visibility Day highlights LGBT demographic

Posted

Bi Visibility Day, also known as International Celebrate Bisexuality Day, has been marked each year on Sept. 23 since 1999. The day highlights biphobia and to help people find the bisexual community. The “B” is thought to be about one-half of the “LGBT” equation.

Research lacking

Gary J. Gates, UCLA/Williams Distinguished Scholar reports that increasing numbers of population-based surveys in the US and worldwide include questions that allow for an estimate of the size of the LGBT population. The problem is that the “B” is thought to be deeply underestimated and not widely studied.

The San Francisco Human Rights Commission is one of the few entities to conduct a study and that was in 2011. To read the study - https://sf-hrc.org//sites/default/files/Documents/HRC_Publications/Articles/Bisexual_Invisiblity_Impacts_and_Recommendations_March_2011.pdf
